Best Of Me Symphony

Ever fall into periods of self doubt? Ever wonder if those archives gethering dust in server and database space serve a bigger purpose than just preventing 404 Errors?

Fret not, because Jim has come out with the Best Of Me Symphony, a submission-based aggregation roundup where you can submit posts as old as two months and older, which would be ancient in blog time.

From this week’s first edition, a few choice entries:

From Vic, memories of Ocean City food:

Weitzel’s doesn’t have a web page (it would be a bit out of character if they did) so I can’t pull up the menu online and reflect on meals gone by…don’t laugh. I do that, especially in, say, February, when I need a vacation. Anyway, I don’t need a web page to remember Weitzel’s, because I have been eating the same thing for 26 years. Fried chicken. Steak & cheese with onion rings. The “Big G” burger. Breakfast…eggs, or maybe an omelette, with fried potatoes and escalloped apples. (I don’t eat either, but at Weitzel’s you can get both scrapple and grits! It’s where the scrapple-grits lines meet!) Maybe an ice cream sundae in the evening.

I usually go to summer spots to ogle, and I am one cheap MoFo, so I don’t eat out even when on vacation. Saves me money, and the entertainment is free.

From Jess, on fast food commercials:

Has anyone else seen and/or heard the series of advertisements that have been running in recent months promoting the, ahem, exciting new menu at Hardee’s? To make a long story short, the overarching theme of these ads is as follows: “We know that we used to suck, but we promise that our food isn’t nearly as bad as it used to be. Honest. Please come and eat here.”

The local Hardee’s we have over here are pretty good; in fact, between the major chains I’d grab a burger at Hardee’s thickburger any time. At least it tastes like beef, not like the others.

This… this is what happens when you start blogging without breakfast. You end up talking about food.

Once little correction – It’s a minimum of two months aging required for submissions. Submitters can go as old as they want.

    Thanks for the plug!

This week’s Carnival of the Vanities is up at Signal + Noise, and it seems that my recent entry discussing my short-lived career as a fragrance model made the cut. Meanwhile, my “classic” (and I apply that term as loosely…

After seeing those Hardee’s commercials I went and gave them and chance. I was stunned – it was the best burger I’d had in months. I kid you not it was delicious (as were the fries). I’m not sure if they’re doing this everywhere, but the couple times I visited they brought my food to me. Pretty sweet.
