One Fine Jay

Dinner guests

Doc J has today’s Beltway Traffic Jam up. He’s meeting up with another blogger in a restaurant that seems not to care about what you wear: Anything goes at the Ebbitt. Our dress is casual — we welcome you in a tuxedo, jeans, a business suit, shorts or a cocktail dress. Despite that it sounds expensive:

Old Ebbitt Grill is just steps from The White House and museums in downtown Washington. Established in 1856, it was a favorite of Presidents Grant, Cleveland, Harding and Theodore Roosevelt and is still a popular meeting spot for political insiders, journalists, celebrities and theater-goers.

Its Beaux-Arts facade, mahogany and velvet booths and bars set in marble, brass and beveled glass are Washington at its finest, and The Oyster Bar at Old Ebbitt is D.C.’s most famous.

Today it is complemented by the Ebbitt Express, a stylish carryout in the Atrium, popular with downtown workers.

Use the list on the left hand side to get specific information such as hours, directions, etc.

Mister Cheapo over here is intimidated, but he is also green with envy. Hmmm. Would Capitol City Brewing Company be a better place to invite the Doc, or just about any blogger for a dinner meet? Everyone goes Dutch, and I’m crossing my fingers that none of the men would come in a cocktail dress. Women in cocktail dresses are a plus.
