RIP Julia Child
The woman who taught America’s cooks how to become chefs has ascended to the great kitchen in the sky.
For the record: no TV chef since Julia Child will ever measure up to Julia Child. Not Martha Stewart, not Rachel Ray, not Alton Brown, and definitely not Bobby Flay and Emeril Lagasse. Do you hear me Bobby Flay and Emeril? Do you two clowns hear me? Forty years from now you will be forgotten, and yet Julia Child (and perhaps The Gallopping Gourmet) would still be remembered as the great cultural artefacts of mid-20th century cooking TV.
UPDATE: I want to see this episode of Wofgank Puck’s show where he had The Great Julia with her as a guest. My friend told me that by the end of the show they were drinking more wine than they cooked with, and were soused by show’s end. Ahh, memories yet to be formed. I can only imagine for now.

I, for one, will not miss the notoriously homophobic Mrs. Childs.
Good riddance.

Agree with your analysis of her culinary brilliance. Though I do have a lot of respect for Alton Brown, his brilliance is as a communicator of ideas and a thinker, not as a chef.
I for one will DEFINITELY miss the lady.

Pigging Out And Julia
Ate too much pizza, spinach, mushroom and garlic pizza to be precise, yum, and feel like a real pig. Got clawed in the process, kitties have to make their presence felt especially when not being petted.
Still, doesn’t compare to crablegs with hot b…

I will definitely miss her, and love the tribute. She and the GG shaped a lot of my early interest in cooking and food. Besides, she was a patriot who served in the OSS as well. Rest well, dear Lady.
