A herd of sheeple
September 3, 2004
Armed Liberal has a scathing discussion over Matthew Yglesias’ elitism towards the American electorate. Apparently, Matt wrote that the American public is too sooooopid to understand the complexities of government, and that governance is, despite elections, in the hands of professional policy wonks.
There is a word for the kind of attitude that Matt Yggy and his rhetorical pig-in-chief Michael Moore show towards the electorate: disdain.
What happens to one of these sheeple, when, qualified under the constitution and able to overcome the logistic and organizational challenges of getting elected, overcomes his electoral opponent? So, does this hypothetical sheep, having won the position of city councilman or a district congressman, at the bottom of a basket of crabs all the way to the President, automatically become a shepherd? Is he, instantly, a “professional politician?” Or does he become a Sheeple In Office that has to be governed by someone else?
Yggy gets it wrong because he doesn’t understand power, at least power in this country.

It’s the characteristic I hate most of this particular breed of moronic liberals. They are so self-absorbed, they can’t imagine that other people aren’t automatons lacking rational thoughts and valid life experiences for believing as they do. What a bunch of geeks.
