Shifting gears

While we bloggers enjoy the trainwreck that is Dan Rather’s discredit, while we engage in making sure that the presidential candidates we root for win in November, let us remember, on this anniversary of the greatest national tragedy in our history, that our enemies are watching us, and are working towards our demise. As we argue over typefaces and kerning, as we offer bounties for anyone who can reproduce the document in question—essentially also proving the falsifiability using an authentic machine—our enemies have a single-minded goal.

Not that I am saying that the disrepute of Dan Rather is unimportant—I find it quite an enjoyable trainwreck—but we also have quite a few things to remain aware of.

Let us not forget that yet again, terrorists have tried to strike at the hearts of our allies. Eleven people are dead, and although it may seem like a pittance compared to the losses of Beslan, of Madrid, and definitely of September 11th, I can only remember, as I read the news of the latest Bali bombing, Condi Rice’s words: all the terrorists have to do is be right once; we have to be right all the time.

I do not accuse my fellow bloggers of willful ignorance of this subject. The willfulness nor the ignorance are both impossible to prove. However, I would just like to remind all of us—yes, myself included—that, especially on this day, we cannot afford to forget our priorities. Though we cannot do much other than comment, other than provide our own insights on the matter, we must also pay attention to this bombing.

Yet again, terrorists have attempted to sway elections to their favor. This has been the recurring tactic of these animals: to attack other nations, in an effort to turn the world’s opinion against us. I am afraid that we will see a rise in global terrorism in a seemingly post-modern attempt to blame everything on our nation. John Kerry says that he will make us, once again, respected in the world. Not even his efforts will gain respect—short of voluntary dhimmitude, at which point I wish for a swift military coup—in a world that has lost its moral compass in exchange for tranquility under a crescent moon flag. It is why I believe that our nation should remain an example of rightful defiance, more demanding of sacrifice, against those that would subjugate us and take from us the freedom on which our country’s birth was based.

Maybe it is all tied together: the liberal media—partisan [expletive deleted] that they are, and with Dan Rather as its stubborn mascot—doesn’t want George W. Bush to remain president. As a matter of good faith I think that they have the best interests of the nation at heart. What I do know is that I do not, and can not, support the methods—what little that they do speak of—that John Kerry and his liberal buddies speak of.

I do believe that a Bush victory is integral in attaining our national security goals. What I don’t believe is that Dan Rather wants us all to die in a flash of nuclear fire. I do not consider him, and CBS news and the rest of the liberal media, The Enemy. They are not to be hated: they are to be discredited out of their occupations and then pitied, as they slink off into the dark night without even a shade of their former reputations to redeem them from their egregious actions brought on by the blinding fury of bitter partisanship.

But are we, who are enjoying the CBS trainwreck, just as blind? Have our partisan defense of the president, our desire for the truth, and our lust for recognition and validation by the big media, in this past two-day circus, shifted our priorities a tad out of synch? We need to gain victory in this scandal with CBS. But maybe, we can dedicate today—of all days—as a day of rest and remembrance.

Today we remember how we were all Americans. Twenty-four hours of remembering who we are up against, of remembering why we are doing what we do, of remembering what makes our nation as good as it is, and of remembering who The Real Enemy really is. Is a day—and this day of all days—really too much to ask?
