Visceral visuals
January 15, 2004
From Zogby friend Melissa a picture from NRO of a billboard ad by the Capital Times of Madison, Wisconsin. The ad bleeds Communist chic:

Our eyes may bulge, our blood might heat up, and these reactions of ours are normal. Sensory stimuli can circumvent conscious thought, and the visceral emotions and reactions they produce are neither right nor wrong, they just are. The American flag, if you didn’t already know it, causes a similar reaction among those who hate us.
I’m glad I live in a country where offensive expression exists but is not banned. Keep in mind though: the right to speak never guaranteed the right to be heard, much less the right to be listened to.
