I wasn’t able to visit the Jefferson memorial in D.C. for the cherry blossoms in full bloom. Those in UMCP were in decline when I visited yesterday. They held a much more surreal beauty than seeing the blossoms all fresh on the tree: With the winds the way that they were, the petals were fluttering in the air, nature’s confetti against the bright white light of the midday sun. The floor of the groves are covered in the petals.
The delicate ephemera are all that the Japanese have cartooned them to be, and they are a blessed sight to behold.
