Jayvie is many things:

I'm a Maryland resident. A self-avowed WordPress Whisperer, I use it in all my projects. I take lovely photos, go to the gym a lot, and opine strongly over design, aesthetics, and politics. I'm a heavy Twitter user, a moderate Flickr participant and in my spare time I help people at the SemperFi WP Support forums. Read more about me.

The trees, they grow so high

So much has happened in the past three weeks, and while there is little room on here, nor time for me, to write the details, my new occupation has proven to be a godsend.

There is no denying the value of good timing in making life decisions, and while there can only be so much control that we have over the circumstances around us, hindsight always provides the sense of serendipity that surrounds lucky choices that we have made.

I am making it in my new job. I am surrounded by co-workers who provide a great environment to work in, who are easy to work with, and make coming to work less of a chore and more of something to look forward to. I had that in my old job, but it expired quickly in the tangled webs of backtalk that only those terminally bored with their occupations tend to resort to.

As Spring reaches its peak my tree-planting season is starting in earnest. I have gathered seeds from a tree that I like, and will be planting them in long plastic tubes in the days to come. I hope this year they will grow to be strong seedlings, maybe a foot and a half tall, before they start losing their leaves for the winter.

Been a while

Last night I fell asleep writing into my paper journal (which by the way has had most of my attention the past few weeks as well). It was about the scales of time with which we perceive our lives.

Note that historians can reduce centuries into mere bullet points, not just because there may not be enough on record (we all know the 19th century has enough record-keeping to go abotu) but also because so much can happen even in the space of three weeks in one person’s life that the sheer totality of human events, when taken into perspective can both be intimidating and trite at the same time.

In three weeks I came back from a week’s vacation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, got hired somewhere else, quit the previous job two days before I started with the new one, started work at the new job, started making new friends, keeping in touch with the ones I made from my old job…

It’s been a long ride, and when I look back I don’t even realize that it’s been less than a month since my vacation.

“Fine” would be the understatement of the year in describing how I feel these days.
