One Fine Jay

Sign of life

Ah yes, I’m decloaking for the moment to give a heads-up to all the dear friends who still drop by and wonder what’s been happening with me. I’ve been quite occupied with work, and also quality time with friends who matter more than blogging. The old design is back in its third iteration, with the… Continue reading this entry

Days of rest and thunder

I’ve been away for a while, taking care of personal stuff and what not. I am not dead, but I have my priorities too. Besides, it’s January and everything political seems so… unimportant these days. I’ll be back in about a week or so, possibly with a redesign bringing back the third iteration of one… Continue reading this entry

Trackback vandalism

ATTN: WordPress users who still don’t have some sort of anti-spam measure RE: Today’s trackback vandalism spam attack Everything you need to know, courtesy of Matt Mullenweg. Pings are closed for the time being, and if I go ahead and install Spam Karma I may have to close all comments before doing so. Pardon my… Continue reading this entry

Pardon my dust

Stylesheet snafu while editing on a remote computer, and am unable to restore the previous version. Long story for a small problem. Back to normal in twenty four hours; at this point I really don’t care. Time to chill out and I’m not even worried about it at this point. UPDATE: Dear generous webhost with… Continue reading this entry

Hey boy watcha doin?

Currently reading Denny Hastert’s biography, working on two posts of different subject matters, and working out. In ascending order of priority. I’ll be posting a review on Hastert’s bio by late next week; I just gone done reading the part about his abcessed shoulder. I like this biography stuff: much more charming than some of… Continue reading this entry

Where in the world?

Been causing commotion in the comments: At Chris Lawrence’s, where his attempt to discuss the regulatory state and groceries was derailed by the Chillmeister himself by talking about, of all things, suspiciously cheap meat that seems definitely blessed by the hands of FDR himself. That and a short complaint about the syntactical confusion by the… Continue reading this entry

Goodbye, and thanks for the fish

A little under a year ago I set up a publicly accessible test blog where anyone could try out WordPress. It’s now gone. I obliterated the subdomain, the directory and its files, and the database. It has served its purpose; WP has gained a lot of publicity as it is now on the way to… Continue reading this entry

Vote early, vote daily, vote for me!

The Grill And Chill has been graciously included in the Best Blog Design category of the 2004 Weblog Awards, sponsored by Kevin Aylward of Wizbang! As the title says, please do. To damp down any negativity that any popularity contest fosters, no detraction against competitors in any category will be read from the annals of… Continue reading this entry

Accolades 2004

Much has happened in the year since I issued my first Thanksgiving Accolades post. There are people on that list with who I have lost contact with; I am still thankful for them. This year, a few newcomers on my “thank you” list. A thank you to the ones whose blogs I have designed in… Continue reading this entry

Live, love, eat!

I’ve redesigned for the first time in months, inspired by the concept of blatantly spoofing the look of the P.F. Chang’s logo. Yay, I now have my own restaurant! I’ll be busy for the next two days, regular posting will resume the Grill-&-Chillmeister will return on Wednesday, 2004-Nov-17. People to thank: Rhesa N. for helping… Continue reading this entry

Life after the election

I need only look through four years of archives from high profile liberal blogs to scare me out of being their mirror image, should Kerry win tonight.

Bilocation

I blog at Jeff Quinton’s place now too. Just two posts so far, one on finally recovering our military numbers and another on some initiative from the Muslim world to reform for, well, its own freaking survival.

Tricky

Comment spam is not one of my biggest interests, but it is worthy to note that I now encountered the first comment spam attack that used the same obfuscation techniques on key spamwords that some blogging tools use to conceal e-mail addresses from farmbots. Such a technique lets slip comment spam, and prevents direct searching… Continue reading this entry

Server killer

No wonder my blog, among others hosted at Matt’s, has been unreachable for the past few hours: Browse Happy was slashdotted. I have great confidence in Matt’s server capabilities, but no one can expect him to be watching the servers all the time: he’s a great guy with a life too. I’ve been a consistent… Continue reading this entry

Bene vixit, qui bene latuit

He lives well, who conceals himself well. — Ovid I apologize—but only to some extent—for my intentional, and unannounced disappearance of the past nine days. I arrived at a point where, despite all efforts, I can no longer find anything redeemable in what I have observed of late. So, instead of trying to fit a… Continue reading this entry

PSA

I interrupt my bloggy vacation to announce that I am convalescing from a nasty throat infection, although I at least know that it isn’t pharyngeal gonorrhea. By the way, what did I miss while I was away? Oh, slug coitus? Darn, that could have been a better alternative to enduring the Hate Bush Convention (whose… Continue reading this entry

Myself and comments

I, like most bloggers, welcome comments on my site. In fact, as much as my closed-door writing can encourage them. However, I am not a fan of reading comments at other people’s blogs. I go to a blog to read its posts, not the responses to them. If I think that I need to share… Continue reading this entry

Vacation’s over

I took a bloggy and real-life vacation. I am back. Everyone, duck and cover. Today’s posts will be listed here as a matter of reference, as the day progresses. Girlie men Celebrity witch hunt Multiculturalism discussed I love the 90s too! PC Heaven 24: July 19, 2004 Catch-up edition

Reclassified

My blog posts will be undergoing reclassification as I further diversify my categories. Pardon my dust…

Ark II

I’ve redesigned the site to use only one stylesheet, a modified version of its predecessor. I call it Ark II. It features new display rules to accommodate my year-long photo project, 24. The site navigation is now under the site’s title, and uses serial, left-floated list items. It is more than likely that the Safari… Continue reading this entry
